Artist Lee Sung of "Mother's Strange P Exhibit" held a performance of breaking the plaster "The Nude, Dead Mask" at the Jongno Arts Theater exhibition hall at 5 p.m. on March 30. Exhibition agency LEESANG ART Co. (director Lee Sang-mi) organized a special event for artist Lee Seong as part of the "Mother's Strange P Exhibit " held at the Jongno Arts Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Lee Sung's plaster "The Nude, Dead Mask" was allowed  to be touched, scribbled on or damaged. This work was scribbled with the active participation of the audience. Also, a 10,000-won bill was inserted into both hands and chewing gum was stuck in the mouth. 
 
Artist Lee Sung led the performance of breaking plaster works with three pre-booked visitors. They appeared in white lab coats and smashed the piece with hammers. Audience’s participation also continued. The smashed art work in pieces is still on display. 
 
"Mother's Strange P Exhibit " is a strange experiment organized by LEESANG ART this year to break the stereotype of modern art and make new changes through various and unusual exhibitions. Artist and actor Lee Sung displays a total of 15 paintings and sculptures in "Mother's Strange P Exhibit " .  Fragments of the work are currently being given away free of charge, said LEE Sang Mi, director of LEESANG ART Co., “ If you want to keep a piece of work of the artist Lee Sung, I recommend you to come up and pick a piece that you like.” "Mother's Strange P Exhibit”  will continue to be displayed until April 28 in line with Jongno Arts Theater’s 11th play "Readers". This exhibition is free of charge. Visiting hours are 12pm to 7pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Closed on Mondays. Please call 070-4949-2998 if you have questions or to make a reservation.

부서진 작품은 모아서 그대로 전시

<엄마의 이상한 P展>의 이성 작가가 지난 3월 30일(토) 오후 5시 종로예술극장 전시장에서 석고작품 ‘나체, 죽은 마스크’(The Nude, Dead mask) 부수기 퍼포먼스를 열었다. 

전시기획사 이상아트(관장 이상미)는 서울 종로구에 있는 종로예술극장 전시장에서 열리는 <엄마의 이상한 P>展의 일환으로 이성 작가의 특별행사를 마련했다.

이성 작가의 석고작품 ‘나체, 죽은 마스크’(The Nude, Dead mask)는 만지거나 낙서하거나 훼손이 가능했다. 이 작품에는 관객들의 적극적인 참여로 낙서가 되어있었다. 또한 만원 지폐가 양손에 끼워졌고, 입에 껌이 물려 있었다.

이성 작가는 사전 예약한 관람객 3명과 함께 석고 작품 부수기 퍼포먼스를 진행했다. 이들은 하얀색 실험복을 입고 나타나 망치를 들고 해당 작품을 부수었다. 관람객들의 참여도 이어졌다. 파편으로 조각난 작품은 그대로 모아 전시 중이다. 

<엄마의 이상한 P>展은 다양하고 특이한 전시를 통해 현대 미술에 대한 고정관념을 깨고 새로운 변화를 주기 위해 올해 이상아트가 마련한 이상한 실험전이다. 화가이자 행위예술가인 이성 작가는 <엄마의 이상한 P>展에서 회화, 조각 등 총 15점을 전시하고 있다. 

이상아트 이상미 관장은 “해당 작품의 파편은 현재 무료로 나눠드리고 있다. 이성작가의 작품을 소장하길 원하면 한걸음에 달려가 마음에 드는 조각을 고르길 바란다"라고 전했다.

<엄마의 이상한 P>展은 극단 종로예술극장의 11번째 연극 <리더스>에 맞춰 오는 4월 28일까지 열린다. 이번 전시는 무료 관람이다. 관람 시간은 낮 12시부터 저녁 7시까지이다. 화요일부터 일요일까지 열린다. 월요일은 휴무이다. 

한편 서울 서래마을에 있는 이상아트스페이스에서 4월 20일(토) 오후 3시 배우 홍수영의 연극 <리더스> 낭독회가 진행된다. 전시 문의와 특별행사 사전예약은 070-4949-2998로 하면 된다.

"Mother's Strange P Exhibit " is the first project of this year's special experimental exhibitions organized by LEESANG ART Co. to break the stereotype of modern art and make new changes through various and unusual exhibitions. 
 
The exhibition is a collaboration between LEESANG ART Co. and the theater company Jongno Arts Theater (CEO Sung Chun-mo). Artist Lee Sung, a painter and performance artist, will show  a total of 15 paintings, sculptures and other works in  "Mother's Strange P Exhibit ".  Among them, Lee Sung's plaster "The Nude, Dead Mask" is available for the audience to touch, scribble or even damage. Three of the visitors who pre-booked to attend the Plaster Smashing Performance Event will be offered the opportunity to participate in the performance with Lee Sung. Park Chang-hwan, team leader of LEESANG ART Co.'s public relations team, said, "I hope you can experience the strange catharsis by touching or freely damaging the noble works of art with your own hands," adding, "Currently, Lee Sung's plaster work has 10,000 won bills stuck in both hands and chewing gum in the mouth from the active participation of the audience. "Mother's Strange P Exhibit" runs through April 28 in line with Jongno Arts Theater’s  11th play "The Readers." This exhibition is free of charge. Visiting hours are 12pm - 7pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Closed on Mondays. Please call 070-4949-2998 if you have questions or to make a reservation.

<엄마의 이상한 P>展은 다양하고 특이한 전시를 통해 현대 미술에 대한 고정관념을 깨고 새로운 변화를 주기 위해 올해 이상아트가 마련한 이상한 실험전의 첫 시작이다. 이번 전시는 이상아트와 극단 종로예술극장(대표 성천모)의 업무 협약으로 진행되고 있다.

화가이자 행위예술가인 이성 작가는 <엄마의 이상한 P>展에서 회화, 조각 등 총 15점을 전시한다. 이중 이성 작가의 석고작품 ‘The Nude, Dead mask’은 만지거나 낙서하거나 훼손하는 것이 가능하다. 

석고 작품 부수기 퍼포먼스 행사 참석을 사전 예약한 관람객 가운데 3명에게는 이성 작가의 퍼포먼스에 함께 참여할 기회가 제공된다. 

이상아트 홍보팀 박창환 팀장은 “고고한 예술 작품을 손으로 직접 만지거나 자유롭게 훼손하면서 느껴지는 묘한 카타르시스를 경험해보길 바란다”며 “현재 이성 작가의 석고 작품은 관객들의 적극적인 참여로 만원 지폐가 양손에 끼워져 있고, 입에 껌이 물려 있는 모습이다"라고 전했다.

LEESANG ART Co. (director Lee Sang-mi) will hold "Mother's Strange P Exhibit” from March 15 (Friday) to April 28 (Sunday) at the Jongno Arts Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is the first start of a series of special experiments exhibition curated by LEESANG ART Co. this year to break stereotypes on contemporary art and make new changes through various and unusual exhibitions. Artist Lee Sung, a painter and performance artist, displays a total of 15 paintings, sculptures and other works through "Mother's Strange P Exhibit.” The exhibition, which is a collaboration between Lee Sang-art and the theater company Jongno Arts Theater (CEO Sung Chun-mo), is also an exhibition of modern art that ventured out to a theater. Artist Lee Sung will hold a performance of breaking plaster "The Nude, Dead Mask" at the exhibition hall of the Jongno Arts Theater at 5 p.m. on March 30. Three of the visitors who pre-booked to attend the event will be given the opportunity to participate in the performance of Lee Sung. The exhibition will be held during the theater’s 11th play, "The Reader.” The play "The readers" runs from March 15th to April 28th at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 5 p.m. on Sundays. CEO Sung Chun-mo, Hong Soo-young, Lee Yang-ho, Han Dong-wan, Ko Hyun-joon and Gil Jung-seok will be performing at the play.

이상아트 전시팀 유리나 큐레이터는 “이상한 실험전은 관객들이 작품을 만지거나 낙서하거나 훼손하는 것까지 가능한 열려있는 참여형 예술 체험 공간이다. 이상한 실험전은 이름처럼 이상하기만 한 전시가 아니다. 또한 여타 미술처럼 고상하기만 한 전시도 아니다”라며 “이번 이상한 실험전은 침체된 국내 미술 시장을 과연 어떻게 해야 활성화 할 수 있을지 끊임없이 연구하는 저희의 또 다른 도전이 될 것"이라고 전했다.

LEESANG ART Co. (director Lee Sang-mi) will hold the first strange experimental exhibition "Mother's Strange P Exhibit." from March 15 (Friday) to April 28 (Sunday) at the Jongno Arts Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul. A strange experimental exhibition is the first of its kind this year by LEESANG ART Co. to break the stereotype of modern art and make new changes through various and unusual exhibitions. In this strange experiment, artist and performance artist Lee Sung will present a total of 15 paintings and sculptures. Lee Sang Art signed a business agreement with the Jongno Arts Theater (CEO Sung Chun-mo) on the 5th of March. LEESANG ART Co. was launched as LEESANG ART institute in Paris in 2010, offering exhibitions and cultural and artistic services in various fields, including painting, installation and sculpture, and has been expanding its boundaries ever since. 
 
Theater company Jongno Arts Theater was founded in 2011. It performed five creative play series and five classical series. In the form of a co-op in 2018, six members have rented space in Jongno 5-ga to create and operate a theater dedicated to collaboration. They work with artists from other fields, including fine arts and visual arts, as well as theater. 
 
LEESANG ART Co. and Jongno Arts Theater plan to collaborate as contemporary art exhibitions having fun at the threater and theoretical plays that went out  to the exhibition hall to create mutual synergy in the field of art. 

The "Mother's Strange P Exhibit" exhibition will be held at the same time as  "READERS",  the 11th play of Jongno Arts Theater. CEO Sung Chun-mo, Hong Soo-young, Lee Yang-ho, Han Dong-wan, Ko Hyun-joon and Gil Jung-seok will perform at the play. Readers first premiered at the Information Small Theater in Daehakno in 2014. On a circular stage filled with 3,000 books, actors read the books that the audience wants. Audiences can also read books to their loved ones. The Readers' performance was produced with the support of 37 theater members of the theater company Jongno Arts Theater and with the help of 15 publishers. Sponsored publishers include Munhakdongne, Samn Parkers, consonants and vowels, Freewill, Bumwoo Temple, Polar Bear, Aureum, Dongyeon, Four Seasons, Pilmaek, Cloud Books, Youth Spirit, NB, Cheongram and Dream Bridge. Lee Sang Art and Theater Company Jongno Arts Theater will arrange special events for a total of two parts. It's all free admission.   The first part will be held at the exhibition hall of the Jongno Arts Theater at 5 p.m. on March 30 (Sat.) at "The Nude, Dead Mask" by Lee Sung. Three of the visitors who pre-booked to attend the event will be given the opportunity to participate in the performance of Lee Sung. The second part will be held at LEESANG ART SPACE in Seorae Village, Seoul, at 3 p.m. on April 20 (Saturday), at a reading of actor Hong Soo-young's play "Readers."  Actor Hong Soo-young majored in Architecture in Hong Ik University. He is a strange theater actor who left behind a lucrative architecture for a less lucrative theater. Actor Hong joined the creation of the theater company Jongno Arts Theater in 2011. Starting with the inaugural film "Jongro Art Theater," he performed every stage,  with the play "Return" in 2012,  "Hamlet the Actors" in 2013, "Readers" in 2014,  "Seokjeon" in 2015 , "The Three Sisters" in 2016 

Lee Sang-mi, director of LEESANG ART Co., said, "I wanted to start a new question in the stagnant art world through collaboration with Jongno Arts Theater, a complex cultural space. I'm very excited to have a special exhibition with experimental and unconventional artist Lee Sung, who throws questions instead of an exhibition of contemporary art that tries to give answers, together  with the creative play "Readers”. "The Jongno Arts Theater, which left the traditional theater and set up a collaboration hall on Jongno 5-ga, is on a journey to find the direction of modern theater through anti-play, and the performance to be presented with LEESANG ART Co. will be a very important turning point for the trip," said Sung Chun-mo, head of the theater's Jongno Arts Theater.

이상아트(관장 이상미)는 제1회 이상한 실험전 <엄마의 이상한 P>를 서울 종로구에 있는 종로예술극장 전시장에서 3월 15일(금)부터 4월 28일(일)까지 개최한다.

이상한 실험전은 다양하고 특이한 전시를 통해 현대 미술에 대한 고정관념을 깨고 새로운 변화를 주기 위해 이상아트가 올해 처음 진행하는 전시이다. 이번 이상한 실험전에서 화가이자 행위예술가인 이성 작가가 회화, 조각 등 총 15점을 선보인다.

이상아트는 지난 5일 극단 종로예술극장(대표 성천모)과 업무 협약을 맺었다. 이상아트는 2010년 프랑스 파리에서 이상미술연구소로 출범해 회화, 설치, 조각을 포함한 다양한 분야의 전시와 문화예술 서비스를 제공하고 경계를 확장해 나가고 있다. 극단 종로예술극장은 2011년 창단했다. 창작 연극 시리즈 5개와 고전 시리즈 5개를 공연했다. 2018년 협동조합 형태로 6명의 단원이 종로5가에 공간을 임대해 직접 콜라보 전용 극장을 만들어 활동하고 있다. 연극뿐만 아니라 미술작가, 영상작가 등 다른 분야의 예술가들과 함께 작업하고 있다. 

이상아트와 종로예술극장은 극장으로 나들이 간 현대 미술 전시와 전시장으로 뛰쳐나온 연극으로 협업해 예술 분야에서 상호 시너지를 낼 계획이다. 

이번 <엄마의 이상한 P> 전시는 극단 종로예술극장의 11번째 연극인 <리더스(READERS)> 전시에 맞춰 진행된다. 성천모 대표를 비롯해 홍수영, 이양호, 한동완, 고현준, 길정석 등이 배우로 나선다. 리더스는 2014년 대학로 정보소극장에서 초연됐다. 3000권의 책으로 가득한 원형무대에서 배우들은 관객이 원하는 책을 읽어준다. 관객도 소중한 사람에게 책을 읽어줄 수도 있다. 

이번 리더스 공연은 극단 종로예술극장의 37명의 관극회원들의 후원과 15곳의 출판사의 도움을 받아 제작됐다. 후원 출판사는 문학동네, 샘앤파커스, 자음과모음, 프리윌, 범우사, 북극곰, 아우름, 동연, 사계절, 필맥, 클라우드북스, 청년정신, NB, 청람, 꿈교 등이다.

이상아트와 극단 종로예술극장은 총 2부의 특별행사를 마련한다. 모두 무료입장이다.

1부는 종로예술극장 전시장에서 3월 30일(토) 오후 5시 이성 작가의 석고작품 ‘The Nude, Dead mask’(석고, 라이프 캐스팅) 부수기 퍼포먼스가 진행된다. 행사 참석을 사전 예약한 관람객 가운데 3명에게는 이성 작가의 퍼포먼스에 함께 참여할 기회가 주어진다. 

2부는 서울 서래마을에 있는 이상아트 스페이스에서 4월 20일(토) 오후 3시 배우 홍수영의 연극 <리더스> 낭독회가 진행된다. 홍수영 배우는 홍대 건축과를 졸업했다. 그는 돈 되는 건축 버리고 돈 안 되는 연극판으로 훌쩍 떠난 이상한 연극배우이다. 홍 배우는 2011년 극단 종로예술극장 창단에 함께 했다. 창단작품 ‘종로예술극장’을 시작으로 ▲2012년 연극 ‘반격’ ▲2013년 연극 ‘햄릿 디 액터’ ▲2014년 연극 ‘리더스’ ▲2015년 연극 ‘석전’ ▲2016년 연극 ‘세자매’ ▲2017년 연극 ‘정의의 사람들 등으로 매해 연극 무대를 선보였다.

이상아트 이상미 관장은 “복합문화공간인 종로예술극장과의 협업을 통해 정체된 미술계에 새로운 화두를 던지고 싶다. 답을 건네는 현대미술 전시가 아닌 화두를 던지는 실험적이고 파격적인 이성 작가의 특별 전시를 창작극인 ‘리더스’와 함께 하게 되어 매우 설렌다"라고 밝혔다.

극단 종로예술극장 성천모 대표는 “전통적인 극장을 떠나 종로5가에 콜라보 전용관을 마련한 극단 종로예술극장은 반연극을 통해 현대연극의 방향성을 찾는 여행 중이며 이번 이상아트와 선보일 퍼포먼스는 이 여행의 매우 중요한 전환점이 될 것이다”라고 말했다.

이성 작가는 “이번 협업 전시는 예술의 탈장르화를 지향하는 작가에게 매우 의미가 있다. 관객들 역시 전시와 연극이라는 두 가지 특별한 경험을 한 번에 얻을 소중한 기회가 되길 바란다”라고 전했다.

연극 <리더스>는 3월 15일부터 4월 28일까지 평일 오후 7시 30분, 토요일 오후 3시와 7시 일요일은 오후 5시에 열린다. 관람비는 2만원이며 음료 및 전시 포함이다. 인터파크티켓 및 네이버예약에서 예매할 수 있다.
